About the Barcelona Bench

Narrower and taller than a daybed, the Barcelona bench is available in three sizes and offers an attractive alternative to the traditional dining chair. It is padded leather upholstery makes it a good crossover piece, creating a visual bridge between sitting, eating and cooking areas in an open-plan home. The one-, two- and three-seat Barcelona benches are available in eight shades of aniline leather – why not buy all three and mix up the colours for a Mondrianesque effect in a monochrome interior?

Story behind the Barcelona Bench

Originally designed in 1930, the Barcelona Bench is part of the popular Barcelona collection and was designed for the world exposition that took place in Barcelona. Well received at the time, the Bench has gone on to be a staple piece every home needs.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Mies Van Der Rohe

1886 (Germany) -1969 (United States)

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was a German-American architect and is regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of architecture. His ‘less-is-more’ approach to design became the gold standard for many generations of modern architecture. The simple forms and extravagant materials Mies van der Rohe used to design the Barcelona Pavilion have inspired many modern minimalist buildings including Capel Manor in Kent, England.

"Less is more."
