Poul Henningsen is said to be the world’s first lighting architect and his PH range, which carry his initials, is a prime example of his iconic work. The PH 3-2½ wall lamp has the look of a traditional gaslight combined with modern functionality and pioneering design. The lamp’s three-tier shade cleverly reflects warm light downwards to eliminate glare, while the matt underside ensures uniform light distribution. Made from stainless steel, the lamp is suitable for indoors use only. It is available in a black or white finish.

The story behind the Henningsen PH 3-2½ Wall Lamp

The PH 3-2½ wall lamp is part of the PH Lamp family, a range of award-winning lamps that were inspired by an old English lamppost. The prototype for the collection was a pendant lamp introduced at the 1924 Paris World Exhibition. It took gold place in the light fitting category. Henningsen began to produce variations of this design, changing the size and the use, from pendant to table, wall to floor. He also adapted his materials, mainly using hand-blown glass, but opting for stainless steel for the PH 3-2½ wall lamp to enable outside use. The PH Lamp collection also includes the PH 3/2 table lamp, PH 3/2 pendant lamp and PH 3/2 Academy pendant.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Poul Henningsen

1894-1967 (Denmark)

Often said to be the first lighting architect, Danish designer, Poul Henningsen devoted much of his life to exploring the importance of light for well-being. Believing people should not be subject to the direct glare of an electrical light source, he focused on creating lamps that produced glare-free illumination. His self-titled PH series was his most famous collection and included the PH 3/2 Table Lamp, the PH Artichoke, the PH5 and PH 3½ - 2½ Floor Lamp.
