Charles Eames EA 117 Office Chair
A perfect example of minimalist elegance, our Charles Eames style EA 117 Office Chair is an enhanced version of the Charles Eames EA 108 Office Chair. Instead of 4 points, the base has 5 points and is on wheels. This brings extra stability and mobility. The height adjustment is gas powered for a smoother movement. The seat is made from luxurious aniline leather and subtly padded for comfort. The frame and base are polished aluminium.
The story behind the Charles Eames EA 117 Office Chair
The Eames Chair 117 Office Chair is part of a family of chairs designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1958, called the Aluminium Group. The original idea for the chair came about after Charles and Ray Eames were issued a design challenge by Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard. Saarinen and Girard asked Charles and Ray Eames to design a high quality chair for outside use. The prototype was made from a mesh material but was later replaced with leather to become the Charles Eames EA 108 Office Chair. It was then further developed to become the Charles Eames EA 117 Office Chair.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Charles Eames
Charles, 1907-1978 (United States) - Ray, 1912-1988 (United States)
Charles Eames was an American designer and innovator who pioneered new techniques, such as the fibreglass and plastic resin moulding and wire mesh frames. He usually worked alongside his wife, Ray, though he is often credited alone. In the 1940s, the designers began focusing on the new plastics and were excited by the properties the material held. They were able to mould the plastics into organic shapes that followed the shape of the body. This discovery led to a whole new look in furniture that perfectly captured the spirit of the times. The couple’s most iconic designs include the DAR chair, the DSR Dining Chair, the RAR Rocker, the DSW Dining Chair, the EA 108 Office Chair and the Wire Base Table. Many of these were first presented at the New York Museum of Modern Art’s Low-Cost Furniture Design Competition in the late 1940s.
