Hans J. Wegner

Our Hans J. Wegner inspired Y Chair (CH24) beautifully reproduces the unique wishbone shape of the original. The Y Chair is carved from fine quality woods. Either beech, maple or walnut - or ash or oak like The Chair. You then have the choice of keeping the purity of the natural wood or having the Y Chair painted. If you opt for a rustic, natural look, we'll use oil to treat and protect the wood. Our coloured options are hand-painted with acrylic paint, which is sealed with a protective coating. This ensures the chairs not only look attractive, but they are also durable and long-lasting. Finally, the Y Chair is completed with an intricately hand-woven paper cord seat, made from over 100 metres of paper cord.

The story behind the CH24 Y-Chair

The celebrated Y Chair, otherwise known as the Wishbone Chair, is probably the most famous design of Wegner. Created in 1949, those chairs are light, elegant and comfortable, with a unique Y-shaped back and simple clean lines. Despite its minimalist appearance, the Y Chair takes 100 steps to make and requires true craftsmanship. It has been in production since 1950 and remains a classic to this day.
