The STIN.com version of Juha Leiviskä's unmistakable JL341 Lamp is lovingly crafted to the exact specifications of the original, bringing all of his style and panache right to your home or business. The smooth white shade, with their tiered base, allow air to flow easily throughout the space, while the slight reflective quality of the material accentuates it beautifully. Its adaptability even means that you can hang it in almost any room in the house, making it a real design must-have.
Known for his sleek, clean minimalist style, which made him a star of the Nordic design scene in the second half of the 20th Century, Juha Leiviskä is a designer who always goes his own way. And this individuality and commitment to invention is no more apparent anywhere than in the JL341. Boasting a cool, classy white shade and a two-tiered base which allows for excellent disperal of light, Leiviskä originally designed it to hang in the building he was designing himself. It proved so popular, however, that in 1969 he began selling them and the rest is history. Today, they remain one of his most enduring designs.
Ever since his childhood in Helsinki, the art of building, creating and innovating has been part of Juha Leiviska's make-up, thanks to his engineer father's lifelong influence over him. After studying at the Helsinki Univeristy of Technology and qualifying as an architect in 1963, he went on to work with legendary designers like Bertel Saarnio and Alvar Aalto, honing his lighting design craft and developing his trademark style. He was made a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in 1991 and an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects three years later.
"To me, a building as it stands, 'as a piece of architecture' is nothing. Its meaning comes only in counterpoint with its surroundings, with life and with light."
