Despite first rolling out of Poul Henningsen's workshop in the 1920s, the PH lamp series looks as sleek and modern today as it ever did, adding a modern, stylish flourish to any room it sits in. Our PH 2/1 Table Lamp sits 35.5 cm tall and its three shades mean that the light is spread softly throughout the space, making it a perfect addition to any coffee table or desk. Its sleek polished chrome stem, available in aluminium, gold and black, is the picture of understated elegance.
Poul Henningsen's PH 2/1 Table Lamp was designed in the 1920s as part of his sumptuous lighting range, which also included the PH 3/2 and PH 4 1/2-3 1/2 Table Lamp. Each design featured Henningsen's signature revolutionary shade design, based on a logarithmic spiral, with the centre of the light source placed in the spiral. This unique interplay of three separate perfectly-fitted opal shades allowed light to be dispersed softly and without glare, softening a space creating a peaceful, relaxing living environment.
Often said to be the first lighting architect, Danish designer, Poul Henningsen devoted much of his life to exploring the importance of light for well-being. Believing people should not be subject to the direct glare of an electrical light source, he focused on creating lamps that produced glare-free illumination. His self-titled PH series was his most famous collection and included the PH 3/2 Table Lamp, the PH Artichoke, the PH5 and PH 3½ - 2½ Floor Lamp.
