POUL HENNINGSEN PH 2/1 WALL LAMP

Despite first rolling out of Poul Henningsen's workshop in the 1920s, the PH lamp series looks as sleek and modern today as it ever did, adding a modern, stylish flourish to any room it sits in. Our PH 2/1 Wall Lamp sits 35.5cm tall and its three shades mean that the light is spread softly throughout the space, making it a perfect addition to any lounge or bedroom. Its sleek polished chrome stem, available in aluminium, gold and black, is the picture of understated elegance, and by being attached at the top does not interfere with the dispersal of light.

THE STORY BEHIND THE POUL HENNINGSEN PH 2/1 WALL LAMP

Poul Henningsen's PH 2/1 Wall Lamp was designed in the 1920s as part of his sumptuous lighting range, which also included the PH 3/2 and 4 1/2-3 1/2 Table Lamps. Each design featured Henningson's signature revolutionary shade design, based on a logarithmic spiral, with the centre of the light source placed in the spiral. This unique interplay of three separate perfectly-fitted opal shades allowed light to be dispersed softly and without glare, softening a space creating a peaceful, relaxing living environment.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Poul Henningsen

1894-1967 (Denmark)

Often said to be the first lighting architect, Danish designer, Poul Henningsen devoted much of his life to exploring the importance of light for well-being. Believing people should not be subject to the direct glare of an electrical light source, he focused on creating lamps that produced glare-free illumination. His self-titled PH series was his most famous collection and included the PH 3/2 Table Lamp, the PH Artichoke, the PH5 and PH 3½ - 2½ Floor Lamp.

"The technician should never forget that he is an artist, the artist never that he is a technician."
