About the PK91 Stool
Poul Kjaerholm's simple and elegant PK91 stool is another barely there design from the king of minimalism. Made from brushed stainless steel with a thick aniline leather seat (available in black, brown or white), this folding stool works well with other Kjaerholm designs, such as the PK22 and PK31 chairs, or as a standalone feature piece.
The story behind the PK91 Stool
Designed in 1961, Kjaerholm took inspiration from the ancient Egyptian folding stools. Kjaerholm was also inspired by some of his teacher's, Kaare Klint, designs that though minimalist were still striking and beautiful. Proof of the PK91's impact on design can be seen by its permanent presence at the Röhsska Museum in Gothenborg, Sweden.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Poul Kjærholm
1929-1980 (Denmark)
Unlike his Scandinavian contemporaries who worked primarily with wood, Poul Kjærholm’s passion was steel. He liked to combine the cool beauty of the metal with other materials such as wood, leather, cane or marble. “Steel’s constructive potential is not the only thing that interests me; the refraction of light on its surface is an important part of my artistic work. I consider steel a material with the same artistic merit as wood and leather,” he commented.
"And we should try to keep our designs as simple as possible."
