About the Platner Style Stool

American architect and designer Warren Platner pioneered steel wire furniture in the 1960s and his Platner armchair and stool are perfect examples of his fresh take on Modernism. These glamorous pieces, created from dozens of meticulously welded and shaped wires, raise the industrial material to a new level. The stool's cushion is available in eight shades of luxurious aniline leather.

The story behind the Platner Style Stool

Designed in 1966 as part of the Platner Collection, the Platner Style Stool helped usher in a new era of steel-wired furniture. Elegant, classic yet modern and versatile, the stool is still considered an iconic must-have piece that will complete any room.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Warren Platner

1919-2006 (United States)

Warren Platner graduated from the Cornell University School of Architecture in 1941, and soon after he started working in the offices of legendary designers Eero Saarinen and I.M. Pei. He opened his own New Haven office in 1967, which quickly became an important design studio, creating furniture, lighting and textiles, as well as interiors. Platner outlined the definition of a ‘classic’ as being: something that every time you look at it, you accept it as it is and you see no way of improving it.
