ABOUT THE A. AND P. CASTIGLIONI SPLUGEN PENDANT LAMP

Reminiscent of a beehive, the Splugen Pendant Lamp is a feat of modern industrial interior design. A bold artistic statement, the Splugen mixes sophisticated aesthetics with functional needs. The thick, ribbed aluminium body captures and reflects light from both within and outside the lamp. While a special silver-domed bulb provides indirect but concentrated light for an atmospheric glow. Hand-crafted for exceptional quality, the Splugen looks just as modern today as it did in 1961. It is the perfect finishing touch for any room, looking stunning as a standalone piece or as an accent lamp over a dining table or kitchen counter. Try suspending three in a row for a dramatic effect.

THE STORY BEHIND THE A. AND P. CASTIGLIONI SPLUGEN PENDANT LAMP

Achille Castiglioni was always looking to everyday objects for motivation, and the Splugen Lamp is no exception. Designed for the Splugen Brau beerhouse and restaurant in Milan, it's said to have been inspired by the gleaming cocktail shakers used at the venue. The beerhouse is sadly no more, but Castiglioni's iconic Splugen lamp has captured the hearts and imaginations of design enthusiasts around the world. It is one of 14 Castiglioni designs consistently displayed at the MoMA in New York.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

A And P Castiglioni

Achille 1918-2002 (Italy) - Pier Giacomo 1913-1968 (Italy)

Since 1940, Archille had dedicated himself to experimenting on industrial products with his brothers Livio (1911-1979) and Pier Giacomo. They focused on Urban Planning, Architecture and Design and worked towards developing a process of integral design. This meant considering how each component within the process would work in conjunction with one another, from the materials through to production.

"There has to be irony, both in design and in the objects. I see around me a professional disease of taking everything too seriously. One of my secrets is to joke all the time"
