Our George Nelson-inspired Coffee Table is made to the exact same specifications as the original, creating a classic, minimalist item that fits perfectly into any stylish living room environment. Its smooth white table top allows it to blend into almost any colour scheme effortlessly, while its strong aluminium central column adds stability, allowing you to relax and enjoy this classic example of American mid-century design.
George Nelson was a great recycler of ideas. If he found a design that he liked, or simply a solution that solved a problem, he would often re-use it over and over again. So when his Writing Table first appeared in 1950, the sleek circular table top and strong, stable aluminium legs proved such a hit that he simply lowered the height, increased the surface area and turned it into a coffee table. Like so many great ideas, sometimes the simplest ideas are the best.
1908-1986 (United States)
American industrial designer, George Nelson was one of the founders of American modernism. He was renowned for finding inspiration in the unlikeliest places. Instead of looking for a shape that resembled a human body, Nelson introduced the idea that anything could be turned into a unique furniture design. His most famous pieces are based on coconuts and marshmallows.
"I have never met a designer who was retained to keep things the same as they were"
