ABOUT THE PANTHELLA FLOOR LAMP

The beautiful pure-white, acrylic finish of Verner Panton's Panthella Floor Lamp has made it one of his most popular designs. First released in 1971, the sculptural form aids the even distribution of light and the distinctive, balanced geometry makes it perfect as a powerful centrepoint or incorporated into a bright Scandinavian-inspired interior. The mixture of straight and curved forms helped create Panton's legendary status and our precise is built to meet his demanding specifications. You also find The Panthella Table Lamp in The Panthella series.

THE STORY BEHIND THE VERNER PANTON PANTHELLA FLOOR LAMP.

The greatest design insight of Panton's lamp is using both the shade and base to reflect light, creating a distinctive glow perfect for any space. The harshness of conventional, partially exposed lamps is rejected in favour of a gentle ambient light that fills every crevice. At this stage in his career Panton was beginning to alter his design practice and move away from the bold colours that he helped define in the 1960s. The Panthella is typical of the exciting developments Panton was making to his approach.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Verner Panton

1926-1998 (Denmark)

Verner Panton was the first architect to work with form and design using plastic as his main material. When he created the Panton chair, the world’s first single-form, injection-moulded chair, it was considered a revolutionary technique back in the 1960s. Throughout his life Panton created innovative designs that combined materials in unconventional ways and was greatly influenced by the impact of colour on his work . Verner Panton represents design without borders. Verner Panton’s vision: to create design using unconventional techniques.

"Choosing colours should not be a gamble. It should be a conscious decision. Colours have a meaning and a function."
